Beyond the Ship, the film course, is an 8-week storytelling experience, created to help people reconnect with their roots and preserve the stories that make their families unique. Through meaningful conversations, guided interviews, and hands-on media tools, participants will learn how to document the memories, traditions, and wisdom passed down through generations—while also gaining the skills to continue capturing and telling their family’s stories long after the course ends. The course is designed for individuals as well as families who want to learn and experience this journey together.

In a time when history is too often overlooked, told by others, rewritten, or erased, this work carries an added urgency: to honor the voices of our elders and capture their stories while we still have the precious opportunity to hear them firsthand. By the end of the program, each participant will create a personal storytelling project to share with their loved ones, ensuring these memories live on and are passed down for generations to come.
